Marcus Ryan Bio
This is the part that lazy promoters often copy / paste to use in promotion for upcoming gigs I'm playing in their club or even and it sometimes appears on their FB event or even in newspapers, so if you're a lazy promoter who is doing that, this'll be pretty funny when everyone sees it! Poo, bum, willy, fart.
Please go to my PRESS KIT section for my full bio, headshots and quotes etc.
For everyone else, here is a bio that will give you a bit of background on who I am and some stuff I've done.
Perennial globetrotter Marcus Ryan is a gifted storyteller with a natural comic bent and has featured at so many festivals and clubs around the world it’s hard to know where home is these days. One thing's for sure, he’s right at home on stage. A laid back yet engaging presence, Marcus charms his audiences with a sharp wit and tales from the road, having performed in 50 countries in 6 continents, but who's counting!? And even a few gigs (poorly) in Spanish!
Though Australian born, Marcus is not one to stay still, often based in Canada & the UK and a regular on club circuits across North America and Europe as well as frequenting festivals world-wide. It is the solo work however where he thrives. Never shy of a challenge, continually carving his own path, bringing English speaking comedy to communities, cities & even countries that have never had it before! Completing epic journeys through South East Asia & Latin America becoming the first person in history to perform English speaking stand-up comedy in several countries, including Laos, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Uruguay & Paraguay. The result of this was a multiple award-nominated solo storytelling show ¿Hablas Inglés? that has toured world-wide to sold out audiences and rave reviews. Follow up shows 'Walk This Qué' & 'MARCOS' are all touring simultaneously and cementing a reputation as a great storyteller on the comedy & fringe circuits around the globe.
HISTORY : At age 18 Marcus worked on-air in breakfast radio before kicking off his stand-up career in Melbourne. Early success in Australia gained invitations to perform in Edinburgh & Vancouver, allowing his passion of comedy to combine with a newfound love of travel. When it comes to experience, there isn’t a lot he hasn’t encountered. From television, film, radio and acting, as well as writing and performing poetry, giving university lectures, mentoring students and upcoming comics through workshops. Whether it be charities, club comedy, backpacker gigs to corporate events such as AFL Europe & Cricket Australia and raising money for Fred Hollows Foundation with his concept show ‘Lights Out Laughs’, from 3 minute sets to 3 hours, he’s performed in a play for an audience of 1 to hosting music festivals up to 15,000! Versatile is an understatement. Be it clean or blue, for young & old, for family, kids and international audiences, Marcus Ryan is an excellent reliable all-round MC and headliner and brilliant storyteller and observational comic with an ability to entertain any room. Don't miss your chance to catch him while you can!
Marcus Ryan is an award-nominated (JFL Montreal & Perth) stand-up comedian, an award-winning storyteller (The Moth), a published writer and explorer and has a story to tell for every occasion. Regarded as one of the most well-travelled comedians working today, whilst not a household name in one country, he has a global following and respected by his peers. His debut one man show, the critically acclaimed 'Love Me Tinder' sold-out festivals and tours world-wide and after an epic journey hitch-hiking through Latin America he returned to Oz with a new show '¿Hablas Inglés?', shortlisted for Best Comedy 2017 at Fringe World Perth. His follow up show ‘Walk This Qué’ - a story about walking 1,000kms across Spain (Camino de Santiago) made its world premiere in the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April 2018. He toured various clubs across Canada as well as ¿Hablas Inglés? made its North American premiere with an award nomination for Best Comedy show JFL in Montreal.. In 2019 he debuted a brand new show MARCOS in Melbourne and a North American, European and Asian tour. All 3 shows are now on tour.
